Zimmerman’s The Jungle Book

After reading the article and watching the clip for Mary Zimmerman’s rendition of The Jungle Book, I do feel that her’s is somewhat less problematic; however, many faults still remain.  In Zimmerman’s version, there is the implementation of true Indian instruments, but the other half of the instruments are still jazz.  The crew made an effort to go to India for filming to obtain authenticity, but it became too expensive.  The storyline is consistent with the original, but makes it troublesome because that means there are still many cultural appropriation errors in it. There are a lot of “buts” in the statements that I have just made which isn’t really a good thing.  It seems that even though efforts have been made to adjust the controversies in the newer version, many aspects of it still suffer, and with the generation we live in today where racism has more awareness, viewers are quicker to pick up on these problematic things now.
