In today’s class, I truly thought it was beautiful that we were freely able to talk about perspectives on issues that have not only been affecting our nation but our campus as well. This definitely does not happen in other classes where professors hold a class session or even just fifteen minutes for students to come together and talk about their feelings on matters that directly or indirectly affect them.
To better prepare and educate ourselves on these ongoing issues, I think it would be beneficial to learn more about laws or political movements regarding the three main topics of our course – gender, sexuality, and religion. Being assigned readings from past historical events that correlate with these modern day issues could really open our eyes and allow us to not be ignorant to history possibly repeating itself. I have always been a firm believer in learning from the past to prevent the same things from happening in the future. Also, the definition of insanity is repeating the same thing over and over again but expecting a different outcome each time even though nothing is changing. We need to work on being the change for ourselves and future generations, or else we will keep going in the same circles of insanity.
