Painted Pomegranates and Needlepoint Rabbis

I found this reading really fascinating, both the part of the introduction and chapter 5!

In the introduction, I like how the author talks about being Jewish as both a religion and ethnicity. Overtime, I have realized that there is definitely a confusing overlap between the two and have thought to myself about how Judaism is really a religion and not a race. For example, one of my friends says that she is an Italian Jew, which makes sense since her ethnicity is Italian and she practices Judaism.

In chapter 5, I was surprised to learn about Jewish craftivism. I was a bit confused in the introduction why the author talked about collages, but it all tied together in this chapter when talking about the art forms for activism. Before reading this, I had never heard of the Pussyhats, AIDS Quilt, and Jewish Hearts for Pittsburgh. I thought this was an awesome way to be an activist through art while supporting a touching cause at the same time.
